HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA — April 13, 2026 — Glen Breton Distillery (Glenora Distillers), the pioneer of single malt whisky in North America, is proud to announce the official release of Titanic Whisky | Jack Dawson Reserve. This limited-edition 10-year-old Canadian single malt has been meticulously crafted to honor the enduring legacy of the RMS Titanic and the profound, deeply personal role that Nova Scotia played in the aftermath of the 1912 tragedy.
The release is strictly limited to 1,912 bottles, a symbolic tribute to the year the “Ship of Dreams” set sail on its ill-fated maiden voyage.
A Spirit Forged in History
For Nova Scotians, the Titanic is not merely a Hollywood story or a distant historical footnote; it is a permanent part of the provincial identity. When the vessel sank on April 15, 1912, Halifax became the global epicenter of the recovery mission.
“The Titanic Whisky is woven into Nova Scotia’s identity,” said Lauchie MacLean, President of Glen Breton Distillery. “Halifax was where the world came to grieve. With the Jack Dawson Reserve, we honor that history with something as carefully crafted as it is meaningful. It is a tribute to the resilience of our people and the quiet heroes who answered the call from the North Atlantic.”
The Legend of Jack Dawson
While the name “Jack Dawson” gained international fame through cinema, its roots in Nova Scotia are grounded in reality. In Halifax’s Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Grave No. 227 belongs to a young Irishman named Joseph Dawson. A coal trimmer on the Titanic, Dawson perished in the sinking and was recovered by the crew of the Mackay-Bennett.
Over the decades, his headstone—simply marked “J. Dawson”—has become the most visited grave in the province, serving as a bridge between the historical reality of the crew’s sacrifice and the modern world’s fascination with the tragedy. This Titanic Whisky release honors that connection, blending the folklore of the name with the somber history of the man.
Exceptional Craftsmanship: The 10-Year Reserve
Aged at the distillery’s home on Cape Breton Island, the Jack Dawson Reserve benefits from the unique maritime climate of the Atlantic coast. The cooling sea breezes and rugged terrain provide an ideal environment for slow maturation, resulting in a whisky of exceptional depth and character.
- Maturation: 10 Years in select charred oak casks.
- Proof: 43% Alc./Vol. (86 Proof).
- Tasting Profile: A smooth, well-balanced palate featuring notes of warm toasted oak, creamy caramel, and a subtle, lingering spice.
- Visuals: The bottle features a striking tribute label depicting the Titanic at sea, framed by nautical elements and a 1912 commemorative seal.
Halifax: The City That Remembered
The Jack Dawson Reserve serves as a liquid monument to the recovery crews who departed from Halifax Harbor. Ships like the CS Mackay-Bennett and CS Minia were sent into the ice fields, carrying the heavy burden of bringing the lost home. Of the 209 victims brought back to Halifax, 150 remain interred in the city’s Titanic graveyards.
The recovery effort was a somber, grueling task performed by local sailors, ministers, and undertakers. By preserving this history through the Jack Dawson Reserve, Glen Breton Distillery ensures that the “Spirit of Adventure”—and the spirit of compassion that followed the disaster—continues to be remembered by a new generation of collectors and historians.
Availability and Distribution
Given the strictly limited production of 1,912 bottles, the Titanic Whisky | Jack Dawson Reserve is expected to be highly sought after by whisky connoisseurs, Titanic historians, and collectors worldwide.
The bottles will be available starting April 15, 2026, at the Glenora Distillery in Mabou, select retail locations across Nova Scotia, and through specialized international distributors. Each bottle is individually numbered, ensuring its place as a rare piece of Atlantic Canadian heritage.
