Nova Scotia and the Titanic

Few places in the world are as intimately connected to the Titanic story as Nova Scotia. The White Star Line commissioned four ships – departing from Halifax – to recover victims from the North Atlantic. Together they brought 209 bodies to Halifax, where 150 were laid to rest across three cemeteries. Fairview Lawn Cemetery alone holds 121 Titanic victims, more than any other cemetery in the world, and is visited by thousands each year. Among those interred there is a grave marked “J. Dawson” – a name that resonates far beyond history. Halifax did not witness the sinking. It became the place where the world came to grieve.
